roommate profile

Hi there,

If you’re reading this page, it probably means that I’ve expressed interesting in renting one of the rooms in the apartment you listed on Craigslist and would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit more about myself.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  I can easily be reached at my e-mail address tchiem@gmail.com or called directly at 281.468.2180.

Tristan

THE SKINNY:  I’m male, mid-twenties, Vietnamese-American, and gay-friendly.  I recently graduated from Harvard College with a B.A. in History and Economics and am currently applying to graduate schools in the New York area.  Along with a handful of J.D. programs, I am activately looking particularly at some M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Art History and Archaeology, both at Columbia University, Fordham, and at New York University.  I am also looking to find employment relating to the Museum world—particularly as an assistant curatorial or assistant coordinator.  For the past six months, I’ve lived and worked in Houston, Texas as a program assistant coordinator at the Rothko Chapel, a landmark meditative space spotlighting the final works of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko.  As a native of Texas, I am looking to branch out and sink my roots elsewhere.

INTERESTS:  I really enjoy watching movies (art house, independent, noir, cult classics mainly, but anything is fair game.)  I listen to a variety of music—anything from old school Smiths to the more alternative/rock feel of Arcade Fire and The National.  But I’m by no means a music snob (I listen to my share fair of top 40).  I read often; some of my favourites include Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov; Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf; The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald; and Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.  I write whenever I can.  I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new things (e.g. mainly museums and food.)  I’ve lived abroad in two different occasions: Venice, Italy and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

FINANCIAL: I have a spotless credit and financial record and am free of any outstanding debts or student loans.  I also have money saved up to secure enough rent money for twelve (12) months.  As long as I am not forced to sign a lease for longer than that duration, I should be fine.  Although I have not secured a permanent job in New York, I am looking forward to the prospects.  In addition, I am fully willing to provide you with the necessary paper documents (e.g. bank statements and/or credit reports) to confirm my reliability on this front.

CLEANLINESS:  I am pretty neat and tidy person with not a lot of “stuff” to bring into the apartment.  I have no furniture or large-scale items to contribute to the living quarters and will likely only bring a few suitcases filled with clothes and bare necessities.  I am fine with equally distributing chores and cleaning responsibilities to clean communal spaces within the apartment.  I am also not territorial by any means and am happy to share any items with my roommates (e.g. soaps, shampoos, laundry detergent, etc.)

NOISE CONTROL:  I do not play loud music.  As a rule of thumb, I respect my roommate’s sleeping schedules by using headphones when I am in my room.  On occasion, I might have guests/friends over to visit, but I am very keen on keeping the noise level at a reasonable level.

SLEEPING SCHEDULE:  I generally sleep pretty late (around 2 A.M.) and get up early (around 8 A.M.)

DRUGS/ALCOHOL:  I do not smoke or do drugs of any kind, and am looking for a smoke-free environment to live in.  Though I am not a heavy drinker, I do drink socially during the weekends from time to time.

PETS: I do not have any pets and do not really wish to live with any (exceptions, however, can be made to fish and smaller critters.)

REFERENCES: If you really want, I can give you the names of some people I have roomed with in the past and they can testify to my sanity and overall amicable personality.
